For the last seven years, the Africa Centre's AIR programme has successfully awarded 69 African artists, among them Mona Eltahawy, Victor Ehikhamenor, Njabulo Ndebele & Aida Muluneh, with residency opportunities around the world.
Residencies for early to mid-career African Artists who predominantly live and work on the continent include Bundanon Trust in Australia, Instituto Sacatar in Brazil, Fountainhead Residency and International Studio Curatorial Program both in the USA. The Africa Centre is also accepting applications from mid to late career, highly accomplished artists for residencies at the prestigious Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center located on the shores of Lake Como in Italy.
All residencies are available to innovative, provocative and socially conscious visual and performance artists, curators, composers, fiction and nonfiction writers, playwrights, poets, video/ filmmakers as well as artists working in digital forms.
Each residency award has a distinct structure, set of requirements and duration. The costs of the residency and round-trip airfare are included in each residency award made.
