Hey filmmakers, registration is now open for the 48 Hour Film Project, 48HFP in Cape Town, a short film competition which invites filmmakers to write, shoot, edit and score a movie in 48 hours.
How it works
At the beginning of the project participants are given a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, which must be incorporated in their movie. After the film is submitted it will screen to filmmakers and the public at a local cinema.
A panel of judges, consisting of film and video professionals, will judge the movies and award filmmakers in a number of categories. Aside from the Best Film of the City, the awards usually include: Best Directing, Best Writing, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Acting, Best Use of Character, Best Use of Prop, Best Use of Line, Best Musical Score, Best Sound Design, Best Special Effects and an Audience Award.
In 2014 the 48HFP includes over 120 cities and approximately 60,000 participating filmmakers. The winning film will compete against winners from countries around the world at Filmapalooza in Hollywood Los Angeles, for the title of Best 48 Hour Film 2014. The top ten films will also be screened at The Cannes Film Festival.
Running from 31st October - 1st November
Registration is based on a first-come first-served basis and space is limited.
