South African Artist, Athi-Patra Ruga |
The Eastern Cape born artist was commissioned by Louis Vuitton to create original artwork for the French brand in form of a giant tapestry that will go on display this autumn in the windows of its Champs-Élysées flagship store in Paris.
The tapestry will measure about 12 by 12 feet and will be a continuation of the artist’s study on the construction of new identities in a post-colonial Africa, merging sensuality with humor and the empirical with the onirical.
His work will also be exhibited at the Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, the art space on the 7th floor of the Champs-Élysées.
Ruga is the first artist from the African continent commissioned to create original artwork for the world's most sought after brand.
