The long wait is finally over! Kenyan actress/filmmaker, Lupita Nyong'o walked away with an Oscar for best supporting actress last night at the 86th Annual Academy Awards. For the past months, the 12 Years A Slave actress has been nominated for various awards while we saw her slay at all red carpet events. She won a few awards prior to the Oscars and last night as some of us her fans could hardly wait for Ms Nyong'o to win her well deserved/ long awaited Oscar for her role as Patsey in Steve McQueen's award winning movie, 12 Years A Slave.
A number of proud Africans took to social media yesterday with their best wishes to the star before the award ceremony. among well wishers were Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta.
It turns out all the messages of hope were not in vain.

Congratulations Lupita. I couldn't be proud! You have set the trend and broken boundaries. You're indeed a beacon of hope for so many young Africans especially girls and women.
